- This settlement developed as a fortified autonomous community centered on a temple and protected by surrounding moats during times of conflict.
Today, it preserves an authentic historical townscape, with narrow lanes that appear largely unchanged since the mid-Showa period (1950s–1960s).
Visitors can still encounter traditional residences dating from the Edo period and later.
At the heart of the district stand the impressive Miei-do and Nyorai-do halls of Senjuji Temple, both designated National Treasures, whose scale and presence leave a lasting impression.
