- The Ueda family residence is one of Amakusa’s historic homes, with the family having served as the Takahama village headmen for roughly 340 years. The main house, detached guest room, front entrance, main gate, and rear gate with its wall are designated as National Tangible Cultural Properties.
The main house dates from the late Edo period (around the 1780s–1868), while the other structures were built during the Meiji period (1868–1912). The grounds feature a spacious garden with views of the glass‑fronted residence, as well as a pond, stone lanterns, and a well.
