- This is the largest of the Western-style buildings in Nagasaki City. The design places emphasis on the frontal aspect facing the sea, with the lower floor designed as a continuous arched arcade, and the upper floors featuring a large order with Corinthian columns, topped by a triangular pediment roof. The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) Nagasaki Branch was the only foreign bank west of Kobe at the time, mainly catering to resident foreigners, particularly trading merchants, and engaging in the exchange of foreign currencies in London, Shanghai, and Hong Kong as its main business operations.
