The Kashiragashima Church, designed and built by Yosuke Tetsukawa, was completed in 1917 and dedicated by Bishop Combaz in 1919. Stones nearby were quarried and used to build the church. The church was inscribed as an Important Cultural Property in 2001, the surroundings also inscribed in 2003. Then in 2018, it was inscribed as a World Heritage Site along with other villages on the western side of Kashiragashima as a component of Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region.
