- Description
- The residence of Buzaemon Nozaki, who built his fortune in the salt-making industry in the late Edo period (1603–1868). On a land of about 10,000 square meters are many buildings, such as the gates, entrance, main house, omote-shoin (salon for guests), warehouses, tea rooms, suikinkutsu (water harp cave), and a dry landscape garden. Most of these facilities have been designated Important Cultural Properties of Japan. The site of the residence was designated a Historic Site of Okayama Prefecture in 1977, was registered as a museum in 1995, and various buildings were designated Important Cultural Properties of Japan in 2006.
