- Description
- Shinjo flourished during the Edo Period as a lodging town on the Izumo Kaido, an old road connecting the San-in and Sanyo regions. There are beautiful streams on both sides of the buildings. In 1906, to celebrate the victory of Russo-Japanese War, 132 cherry trees were planted on the two sides of the street, which has come to known as ‘Gaisen Zakura (Victory Cherry Blossom) Street,’ attracting many visitors during the cherry blossom season.
