- Tomoegaoka Mountain Lodge
- Address
- Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture
- Description
- Within the approximately 4,000-square-meter grounds grow many plants, including mountain cherry trees 150–200 years old, maples, and azaleas. The garden was created in the Meiji period (1868–1912) as a strolling-style landscape garden for the villa of the Takahashi family, wealthy landowners of the area. It is designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan.
Designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan, the garden is particularly striking in autumn, when the foliage turns vivid shades of red and gold. Evening illuminations during the foliage season transform the grounds into a magical nighttime landscape.
