The building was reconstructed based on photographs and excavation surveys to its original purely Japanese-style Taisho Period (1912-1926) appearance using a Shoin-zukuri style and thatched roof.

The bridge offers expansive views of the bay area, including pleasure craft in Hakodate Bay and the red brick warehoues on the opposite shore.

Cape Esan Lighthouse Park was developed around the Cape Esan Lighthouse which marks the boundary between the Pacific Ocean and Tsugaru Straits.

On a clear day visitors can see as far as Mt. Komagatake from the observation deck overlooking the Port of Hakodate.

The park was modeled after a purely Japanese-style garden, a rarity in Hokkaido, and contains countless species of both indigenous and foreign plants and shrubs.

Hakodate Park, encompassing 4.8 hectares of greenery, is much like other urban parks in Japan.

Goryokaku Fort, constructed in 1864 as a base of operations for the northern security force, represents Japan's first-ever Western-style fort.

The Kyoto town can be commanded from the observatory.
