- A long time ago, the Ryukyus were divided in three kingdoms. One of these kingdoms was the Hokuzan kingdom located in northern Okinawa and ruled from Nakijin Castle.
Elevated on a 90-100-meter high hill, the castle is set on a ravine and is 70-80m long from north to east. Ramparts made of Ryukyuan limestone are 3-8 meters in height with a total length exceeding 1.5 km. The castle has eight enclosures, and a lovely stone pavement road goes from the castle entrance to the main enclosure.
