- In a small settlement of seven houses by the Hinokage River, a vast stone retaining wall has long protected the terraced rice fields. The oldest sections of the wall date back to the Kaei era (1848–1854) to the Ansei era (1854–1860), and the site has been recognized as one of Japan’s top 100 terraced rice fields.
