- Located on Oita Prefecture's Kunisaki Peninsula around Kitsuki Castle, Kitsuki is said to be Japan’s smallest castle town. The city has two hills with a valley in between. There are two slopes, Suya-no-Saka and Shioya-no-Saka. Because the commercial district is between the two Samurai districts, the town is designed to look like a “sandwich.”
