- It was built by Tomimoto Shiro, a descendant of the Tomimoto family, a wealthy farming family that prospered through the indigo trade. On the grounds stand “Chōraku-sō,” a pseudo-Western-style building constructed in 1932 that blends Japanese and Western architectural styles, and the “Former Yamase Post Office,” built in 1913. Chōraku-sō features
Japanese-style and Western-style rooms, as well as a dance hall, and the antique furniture in each room is also worth seeing.
