Location information
- Name
- Kanbanotaki Waterfall
- Address
- Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture
- Description
- Designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty, this waterfall and its surrounding area also form part of a Prefectural Natural Park.
Plunging 110 metres down a sheer cliff approximately 20 metres wide, the waterfall creates a truly spectacular sight. At the centre of the cascade stands a dark rock known as Koiiwa, so named for its resemblance to a carp swimming upward through the spray. Downstream lies Tamadare Falls, admired for its delicate streams that resemble raindrops falling from the eaves of a thatched roof.
Beyond the waterfall itself, a two-kilometre trail along the mountain stream offers attractive scenery, with deciduous trees such as katsura, zelkova, and itaya maple, as well as rare species including keguwa. The park is also home to around 170 wild monkeys.
