- Address
- Daisencho, Tottori Prefecture
- Description
- The Tokorogo settlement is a rural area located on an alluvial fan at the northern foot of Daisen, the highest peak in the Chūgoku region. Many buildings from the early modern period (1603–1867) to the early Shōwa period (1926–1945) remain, creating a charming townscape enhanced by the sound of irrigation water flowing through the settlement. A group of buildings preserving traditional architectural forms can be found, along with estate layouts, surrounding farmland that retains its historical character, and waterways that wind through the village and fields. Together, these elements form a historically significant rural settlement in the Hōki region, which has been highly valued and designated by the government as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. It is about a 2-minute drive from the Daisen IC on the San’in Expressway.
