- The Tōin Garden, where imperial banquets and ceremonies were held during the reign of Emperor Shōtoku (764–770), has been restored within the site of Heijō Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Completed and opened to the public in April 1998, the garden restoration is based on extensive research and evokes the atmosphere of the Nara period (710–794).
