- Located near the summit of Mount Rokko at an elevation of 865 meters, this botanical garden utilizes the cool climate comparable to that of southern Hokkaido to cultivate approximately 1,500 species of alpine plants, cold-region plants, indigenous Rokko plants, and various wildflowers.
The garden spans 50,000 square meters and features a rock garden for alpine plants, wetlands along a stream, and shaded areas under beech trees, with each plant arranged in a way that resembles its natural habitat.
Opened in 1933, it was designated as a museum equivalent facility in 1955. Throughout its long history, it has been cherished as a distinguished botanical garden, having received visits from members of the Imperial Family over three generations.
