- Opened in 1933 (Showa 8) under the guidance of botanist Dr. Tomitaro Makino, Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden is located near the summit of Mount Rokko, at an elevation of 865 meters. Taking advantage of the cool climate, the garden cultivates approximately 1,500 species, including alpine plants and cold-climate plants from around the world, native plants of Mount Rokko, and other wild mountain plants.
