- Description
- There are two tea rooms next to the Sakai City Museum: Shinan and Obaian. Shinan was originally built in Shiba Park, Tokyo, in 1929. It was donated and moved to Sakai in 1980. Designed by Rodo Ogi, a master tea house architect, Shinan is partially two-storied and has crosspiece tile-roofing. The facility includes an entryway, a hall, and 10 tatami rooms including tea rooms. Oubaian was originally a tea ceremony room at the Toyoda Family Residence (Important Cultural Property) in Nara. Yasuzaemon Matsunaga obtained and renovated the tea room to use it in Odawara. His family later donated the tea room to Sakai City. The two registered tangible cultural properties are connected by a tea garden, where Kyujodoji Kujyunotou (nine-layered stone pillar), an Important Cultural Asset of Japan is placed.
