- In addition to its history as a mountain asceticism temple, Seigakuin is known as a temple school where Ekai Kawaguchi, the first Japanese to cross the Himalayas from late Edo Period to early Meiji Period in search for a Buddhist texts, once studied. Considered a valuable historical resource as a building from the end of Edo Period, the building was registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan in 2002.
