Description: The residence of the Fukui domain lord, the Matsudaira family, is known for its collection of shoin-style architecture built around a pond, closely integrated with the garden. Its spacious and clear garden pond forms the central feature of a stroll-style landscape garden (kaiyūshiki rinsenteien). This garden is widely recognized as one of the representative famous gardens of the mid-Edo period (1651–1745). It is also highly ranked in the Japanese garden rankings published by the American magazine The Journal of Japanese Gardening.
