- Echizen Railway is a local railway operating in Fukui Prefecture, consisting of two lines: the Katsuyama Eiheiji Line and the Mikuni Awara Line. Established in 2003, it took over the former lines of the Kyofu Electric Railway as a regionally focused third-sector entity. Along the routes, passengers can visit various attractions, including the historically significant Zen temple Eiheiji, the dramatic coastline of Tojinbo, and the well-known hot spring, Awara Onsen.
Retro-style trains and those decorated with local themes enhance the travel experience, allowing passengers to enjoy the scenery at a relaxed pace. Additionally, from 2024, the railway will support nationwide IC cards, improving convenience for tourists. While playing a vital role in local transportation, it also offers a unique and scenic journey for visitors.
