Location information
- Name
- Former Niigata Customs Office Building
- Address
- Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture
- Description
- This office building, constructed in 1869, is the only existing building from the five ports that were opened for trade during that time. It was created by local carpenters who mimicked Western architecture, earning it the name "pseudo-Western-style architecture." While it may appear Western in style at first glance, it is characterized by the fact that much of it was constructed using traditional Japanese techniques.
