- Happodai is the summit of the Higashiyama Mountain Range, which stretches east of Nagaoka City and is flanked by mountains on both sides. Blessed with beautiful scenery in every season, it is a place nearly all local residents visit at least once. It serves as a base for outdoor activities such as camping and excursions, as well as a relaxing spot for families.
The summit is also known for its sweeping views—not only over Nagaoka City but, on clear days, as far as Sado Island and the Echigo Sanzan mountains. The autumn foliage season is especially recommended.
