- Mount Azumaya, one of Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains, rises to an elevation of 2,354 meters. Part of the Gunma Prefecture Ridge Trail, it is known for its picturesque trekking routes. Despite being a 2,000-meter-class mountain, you can reach the summit in just under two hours using the gondola (from the Parkour Tsumagoi Resort) that operates from summer to autumn each year.
At Mount Azumaya, visitors can see Matoiwa, designated as a national natural monument, and Oniiwa, designated as a natural monument by the village.
Matoiwa: A rock formation that is 150 meters long, 4 meters wide, and 15 meters high.
Oniiwa: A columnar jointed rock formation that is 50 meters long and 20 meters wide.
