Location information
- Name
- Mt. Tsukuba
- Address
- Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture
- Description
- Admired from olden times as “Mt. Fuji of the west, Mt. Tsukuba of the east,” Mt. Tsukuba, a twin-peaked mountain consisting of Mt. Nantai and Mt. Notai, is also called “Purple Peak” because of its changing colors at dawn and dusk.
With many huge and strange-shaped rocks and Tsukubasan Jinja Shrine that stands on the southern foothill, the entire mountain has been considered sacred since ancient times. At the foot of the mountain is Hakojima Retarding Basin, where the Double Diamond Tsukuba (sunrise over the mountain peak and its reflection on the pond) can be seen twice a year.
