- When Tozawa Notonokami, lord of Kakundate Castle, became ill with an eye disease, he was healed upon praying, which gave this Yakushido (hall to worship the Buddha of medicine and healing) its name Jojuin Yakushido (literally meaning ‘the hall of medicine and healing where prayers are answered’).
