- Description
- Seiza-no-Mori at Taneyama Kogen is a highland camping facility known for its rich natural environment and clear night skies.
Taneyama Kogen, a gently rolling highland at an elevation of approximately 700–870 meters, spans Oshu City (Esashi area), Tono City, and Sumita Town in Iwate Prefecture, with open grasslands and forests. In August 1917, poet and author Kenji Miyazawa first visited Taneyama Kogen and was captivated by its scenery and weather, returning many times thereafter. The landscapes of this area are vividly depicted in several of his works, including Kaze no Matasaburo (The Wild Boy).
Seiza-no-Mori, located within the highlands, offers minimal light pollution, making it ideal for stargazing and astrophotography. It features bungalows, lodges, and tent sites, and also serves as a base for hiking and trekking, offering diverse outdoor activities year-round.
