Name: Shibutami Jinjyo Elementary School

Address: Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture

Description: Built in 1884 in the former village of Shibutami, this school building closed in 1963. After its closure, it was used by local residents as the Matsunai Community Center, and in 1968 it was relocated and restored beside the present Ishikawa Takuboku Memorial Museum.

Although some modifications were made during relocation, key features from the Early Meiji Period (1868–1880) remain, including the masayane‑style roof structure, wooden latticework, shoji screens, and an irori hearth.

Recognized as one of the oldest surviving school buildings in Iwate Prefecture, it is now designated by Morioka City as a Tangible Cultural Property (Building).
