- Description
- The Bandai Bridge, which spans the Shinano River, Japan's largest river, has always been loved as a symbol of the city, regardless of the era. The sturdy stone-built Bandai Bridge is characterized by beautiful continuous arches. It is adorned with granite and Mino stone, exuding an elegant atmosphere while retaining its dignity. In response to the modernization of the city, the current third-generation Bandai Bridge was rebuilt in 1929 and was designated as an important cultural property of the country in July 2004. The bridge is 306.9 meters long and 22.0 meters wide. It withstood the Niigata Earthquake in 1964 and supported the people. It is a major thoroughfare with significant traffic, but it has wide pedestrian walkways, allowing people to cross on foot. Taking a water shuttle, a boat traveling on the Shinano River, is also recommended.
